On Wednesday, The Media High Council (MHC) held a one-day forum on establishing a network with key stakeholders for media sustainability which aimed at engaging both private and public institutions, international and local non-government organizations, stakeholders, private sector federation and civil society in building media capacity.
The forum organised in partnership with the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) attracted more than 100 participants from government institutions, financial institutions, media houses, embassies, international organizations and so many more.
The discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges in the business of Media, how media practitioners can benefit from the National Employment Program and media synergy.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Media High Council, Peacemaker Mbungiramihigo, said that since 2013, MHC whose mandate is to build the capacity of Media in Rwanda has been emphasizing on activities aimed at enhancing the professionalism of media practitioners and the sustainability of media houses.
“In its 2019-2024 Media Capacity Building strategic plan to be validated soon, MHC will focus on 4 main objectives and 'Strengthening the Media Sector performance in order to contribute to the national development' is one of them,” He said
He added that it is in this line, MHC organised this forum and hope that the media fraternity will be able to build a relationship with financial and government institutions, stakeholders, for sustainable media.
Urinzwenimana Mike, The Managing director of The Express news, said that the forum has been an opportunity for him to know more information about where he can sell his products and services.
“I was able to meet different potential partners that it would be hard to find otherwise. I had conversations with some of them and soon i am going to give them different proposals on how we can work together.” he added.
Brian Rugamba Karemera who is in charge of Marketing and corporate communications at BPR Atlas Mara said that as a financial institution, they are willing to give loans to media-related projects as long as they are were studied and planed.
On the other hand, the media fraternity was advised to work in synergy, produce diversified content that can attract sponsors and advertisers, ambrace digital era and use available opportunities offered by new media.
